IP TAKE: This community foundation has re-branded itself and is focusing more than ever before on strengthening communities and getting local residents involved.
PROFILE: Before its re-branding, the Innovia Foundation used to be called the Inland Northwest Community Foundation, which was established in 1974. Innovia still serves 10 counties in Eastern Washington and 10 counties in Northern Idaho. Like other community foundations, it works with local donors, nonprofits, and community leaders to improve the quality of life in its region. Grantmaking areas of interest are civic engagement, education and youth development, arts and culture, economic opportunity, health and wellbeing, and quality of life.
Through its grantmaking, Innovia aims to drive community transformation, look ahead, and lead the way to come up with innovative solutions to community problems. Civic engagement grants go towards addressing local needs and priorities to get residents involved, while education and youth grants revolve around opening doors to success and eliminating barriers. Health and wellbeing grants go towards basic needs and other areas to make residents live healthier lives, while arts and culture grants aim to expose youth to enrichment activities and support artists in the region. Economic grants address innovation, collaboration, and strengthening the local economy, while quality of life grants are awarded broadly to preserve and protect the region.
Grants range from $2,000 to $30,000. The foundation has traditionally awarded about $1 million annually through competitive grants program. The foundation supports the following Washington counties: Ferry, Lincoln, Adams, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Whitman, Columbia, Garfield and Asotin. The Idaho counties are Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah, Latah, Shoshone, Nez Perce, Lewis, Clearwater and Idaho.
Innovia accepts unsolicited grant applications throughout the year. The funder posts available opportunities and deadlines on its website. Direct questions to the staff at 509-624-2606.
