Cambia Health Foundation: Grants for Public Health

OVERVIEW: The Cambia Health Foundation focuses its public health grantmaking on children’s health, access to healthcare and palliative care.

IP TAKE: This funder focuses its grantmaking on organizations located in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah; however, it is open to exploring grantmaking opportunities outside of these states.

PROFILE: Established in 2007, the Cambia Health Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company Cambia Health Solutions. The foundation is “[c]omitted to transforming healthcare, enhancing children’s health and improving end-of-life palliative care in collaborative and innovative ways.” Grantmaking programs include Building Resilience in Children, Healthy People, Healthy Communities and Sojourns (palliative care).

While the foundation does not have a public health grantmaking program, its grantmaking across all of its programs indicate an interest in public health field. For example, Cambia’s Building Resilience in Children program supports “[i]nitiaives that build resilience in children and buffer against the negative health consequences of trauma and toxic stress.” Its Health People, Healthy Communities program focuses on helping to change the way people living in both rural and urban environments experience healthcare. Areas of focus include “[s]eamless integrated care, meaningful patient and consumer engagement in achieving health goals, and the strategic consideration of social determinants in health and healthcare services.”

Cambia Health Foundation grant amounts typically range from $50,000 to $100,000. Past public health grantees include Neighborcare Health, which received funding for its work providing comprehensive healthcare to vulnerable populations; and Communidades Unidas, which received a grant for its work building a “[h]ealthier Latino community in Utah.”

The foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications during its Request for Proposal (RFP) period. Cambia announces current RFP dates and deadlines on its website.
