With a commitment to the women and girls of Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties, the Dallas Women’s Foundation is a responsive grantmaker that’s open to new grantees. This is the largest regional women’s fund in the world, and it’s focused on at-risk and poverty-stricken women struggling to get ahead in North Texas.
DWF is currently accepting applications for the Mrs. H.L. (Ruth Ray) Hunt Memorial Fund, one of the donor-advised funds it manages, for the Spring 2015 funding cycle. The application period is open through January 14, and here are a few things that Dallas area nonprofits should be aware of.
Programs Must Have a Faith Angle
To be considered for the Mrs. H.L. (Ruth Ray) Hunt Memorial Fund, your nonprofit program must have some sort of faith angle. All faiths are accepted and encouraged to apply. If your organization doesn’t have a current faith-based program, it at least needs to have a historical tie to a faith of religious entity.
DWF will consider requests for programs that benefit girls and women at risk, support family units led by women, support education for at-risk girls, and support medical care for indigent women. It is particularly looking for new grantees that support housing for women over 75 and women in the Dallas suburbs.
Programs Must Benefit Local Females
At least 50 percent of the people who benefit from these grants must reside in Dallas, Denton, and Collin Counties. And at least 75 percent of the beneficiaries must be female. Your nonprofit can receive up to $30,000 in per year from the Dallas Women’s Foundation.
After you get $30,000 (the maximum award amount), you must wait another six months to apply for more funding. The foundation expects to pay out about $250,000 for this current grant cycle.
There Will Be Site Visits
DWF regularly conducts site visits as part of the grantmaking process. Nonprofits will either be notified of upcoming site visits or that they’ve been eliminated from consideration by January 29. Site visits for the spring cycle will take place between February 2 and February 20. Notification of grant status will take place by March 27.
To apply for a Dallas Women’s Foundation grant, visit the foundation website and create a new login username and password before January 12 to begin. But make sure to read through the full Spring 2015 Grant Guidelines document before applying.
