Norman Community Foundation

OVERVIEW: This funder supports pretty much any nonprofit need in Norman, Oklahoma. The grant application is online, and unsolicited requests are accepted.

FUNDING AREAS: Human services, youth, people with disabilities, arts and culture, the elderly, basic needs

IP TAKE: This funder doesn’t appear to have a full-time staff, and the number of grants awarded each year is limited. But unlike other funders in the region, the focus is pretty much wholly on a single town.

PROFILE: The Norman Community Foundation (NCF) is based in Norman, Oklahoma, and was established in 1995. As a community funder, it channels funds from donors to groups in town. NCF is managed by the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma, another community funder that we have profiled here at IP. However, NCF is governed by a board of directors that represent the Norman area.

NCF supports any community philanthropic organization that serves the city of Norman and its citizens. Top interests are human services, youth, people with disabilities, arts and culture, the elderly and basic needs. Grants have gone to the Norman Philharmonic, Meals on Wheels, and Food and Shelter Inc., the National Weather and Science Museum, NAIC, the Norman Arts Council, Full Circle Adult Day Care and the Center for Children and Families. An NCF testimonial video is available here.

As a community foundation, NCF manages a number of funds: donor-advised, scholarships, community, field-of-interest, unrestricted, agency endowment and escrow. But there's a single grant application for any NCF grant. The application is online. You’ll need to create an account unless you already have one on the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma’s online grant portal; find the application under Norman Community Foundation.

The mailing address is P.O. Box 2926, Norman, Oklahoma 73070. The phone is 405-488-1450. Jonella Frank of the University of Oklahoma College of Law is president of the board of directors; email jfrank@ou.edu. The chair of the grants committee is Anne Clouse of Integris Health Foundation, at anne.clouse@integrisok.com. A list of board officers, members, and committee chairs is on the website. The email listed on NCF’s contact page, wmerrick@cfok.org, is for Will Merrick, the executive vice president and outreach director of the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma.

The foundation has a news page and an events page, where you can see what the organization has been up to lately. You can follow them on Facebook.
