ISSUES:

EDUCATION: After forty years, Allan Muchin is shifting his focus from taxes to education. As one of Chicago’s most well-known philanthropists, Muchin is leading the boards of numerous Chicago charitable and civic organizations and focusing his passion for education on charter school development. Muchin’s foundation prides itself on the opening of the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, which serves low-income, minority youth of the southwest side of Chicago. The school helps place students in office jobs, and the income they earned goes directly to the school for their tuition costs. Since 2003, the Katten Muchin Rosenman Foundation has worked to improve literacy through staff tutoring, reading programs, and holiday book drives with Chicago’s Philo Carpenter Elementary School and Jose de Diego Community Academy.

LEGAL COUNSELING AND FUNDRAISING: As director and regular contributor to the Katten Muchin Rosenman Foundation, Inc., Muchin has led the foundation to serve more than 300 non-profit organizations and set the tone for the law firm’s philanthropic efforts. Attorneys at the firm regularly provide pro bono legal services and participate in regular service projects and fundraising efforts. The firm foundation’s focus areas include medical research, disaster relief, education, arts, culture, health, and human rights. These efforts earned Muchin the Executive Leadership Award at the recent Association of Fundraising Professionals Chicago Chapter Luncheon.

If your nonprofit organization is looking for education grants to boost literacy, workplace skills, and success in college, Allan Muchin and his foundation may be able to help. Since the foundation is directly affiliated with the law firm, your best bet is to contact the firm directly.
