NET WORTH: Unknown
SOURCE OF WEALTH: DCF Capital
FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, Health & Human Services, Religious
OVERVIEW: Douglas Floren, his wife Olivia "Livvy", and family made a $10 million gift to Dartmouth College. The family also gives through the Floren Family Foundation, which modestly supports educational, health, and other causes.
BACKGROUND: Douglas C. Floren graduated from Dartmouth in 1965. He went on to found hedge fund DCF Capital in Greenwich, Connecticut.
EDUCATION & YOUTH: Last decade, Douglas and Olivia Floren and family gave a $10 million gift to Dartmouth College toward construction of Floren Varsity House. In addition to Dartmouth athletics, the Florens have funded arts and sciences. Away from Dartmouth, via their foundation, the family has supported Greenwich Country Day School (Livvy was once board president), Park City Day School, Vassar College, Whitby School, and Princeton University, where a daughter graduated.
HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: The Florens direct steady funds to Stanford University, and have an interest in medical research, including research that helped Stanford scientists discover a biomarker for flu susceptibility. Other grantees include Bethesda Hospital Foundation, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Greenwich United Way.
OTHER: The Florens have supported Round Hill Community Church.
LOOKING FORWARD: Livvy's position as a State Representative in the 149th District in Connecticut should be kept in mind. Perhaps the family's foundation will direct funds to local and regional policy shops. Perhaps grantmaking at the foundation will ramp up as well. Away from the Northeast, the Florens also have ties to Florida.
