BACKGROUND: Joseph R. Zimmel graduated with a B.A. Georgetown University and with an MBA from Wharton. Zimmel joined Goldman Sachs in 1979 in the mergers and acquisitions department, and became partner in 1988. He retired from Goldman in 2002. He helped start and currently serves as a director of four private companies: PURETi, Prizmalite Industries, Spiral Universe and nuTravel Technology Services.
EDUCATION & YOUTH: Zimmel and family support special education causes; the family adopted two special needs children. Grantees include National Center for Learning Disabilities, and Wediko Children's Services, which "responds to the needs of children who face repeated obstacles to development due to emotional, behavioral, environmental, and learning issues."
