OVERVIEW: Paul Reeder conducts his philanthropy through the Reeder Foundation, whose grantmaking focuses on education and youth. Available tax filings reveal that the foundation awarded $3.5 million in grants in 2018.

BACKGROUND:  Paul Arlington Reeder III received a B.A. from Oberlin College in 1983 and a Masters from Sloan School of Management at MIT in 1985. Reeder served as an airline analyst at Loomis Sayles & Co. He went on to cofound PAR Capital Management in Boston.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Reeder has donated to his alma maters Oberlin and MIT. He has also supported Cradles to Crayons, which works with low-income children in the Boston area, Year Up, Teach for America – Boston, and Teach Plus, which empowers “excellent, experienced teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that affect their students’ success.”

BOSTON COMMUNITY: Reeder has supported New Profit, a “nonprofit social innovation organization and venture philanthropy fund based in Boston, Massachusetts,” and The GreenLight Fund, which “greenlights powerful programs that can help solve critical local needs, speeding their entry into the new location and giving them a strong start in the local community.”  

LOOKING FORWARD: Reeder has not said much publicly about his philanthropy. He is still very much engaged in business, but perhaps his work in the education space will deepen in the coming years.
