BACKGROUND: Peter Fasseas received a law degree from Northwestern University, and Paula Fasseas holds an MBA from the University of Chicago. The couple married in Paula’s native Tucson in 1975 before moving to Chicago, where Peter was working as an attorney. In the late 1970s, the couple leveraged their home to purchase North Community Bank. It was the first piece in what would grow to become the Metropolitan Bank Group, now Byline Bank, which was purchased in 2013.
ANIMALS: In 1998, Peter and Paula founded PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago after learning about the extent of the pet overpopulation problem in the region. PAWS Chicago is now the largest no-kill humane organization in Chicago. The family has continued to support PAWS Chicago (Paula is chair) via their foundation, as well as places like Animal Welfare League, Hermitage Cat Shelter, PETCO Foundation, and Puppy Mill Project.

OTHER: The couple also supports churches like Greek Orthodox Church and Community Christian Church, as well as arts and cultural organizations in the Chicago area like Looking Glass Theatre Company.
