Stuart and Jennifer Zimmer

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Zimmer Partners

FUNDING AREAS: Jewish Causes, Education & Youth, Health

OVERVIEW: Stuart and Jennifer Zimmer conduct their philanthropy through the Zimmer Family Foundation. According to available tax filings, the foundation awarded $1.52 million in grants in 2018. The family’s giving through their foundation strongly focuses on the Northeast, with an eye towards Jewish organizations.

BACKGROUND: Stuart Jason Zimmer graduated from Harvard College with a degree in mathematics. He served as a research analyst at Steinhardt Partners and was a co-Founder and Partner at Zimmer Lucas Capital. He went on to found Zimmer Partners.

ISSUES:

JEWISH CAUSES: Stuart Zimmer is the founding donor of Zimmer Preschool, a Chabad school in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. The couple continues to support the school via their foundation, as well as groups like Friends of IR David, Temple Israel, Congregation Beth Sholom, and Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (the couple are SSDS parents).

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Grantees have included Columbia University and Overtown Youth Center in Miami, which was cofounded by former NBA Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning.

HEALTH: The couple is involved with Halachic Organ Donor Society, a philanthropic organization that works to raise organ donor awareness among Jewish people; Zimmer is the recipient of a kidney transplant and his physician led the team that cared for Alonzo Mourning, who also suffered from kidney disease.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect the Zimmers to stick with their select interest areas. Given the personal elements involved, the family’s health work should be watched.
