OVERVIEW: Alan Breed, his wife Ellen, and family conduct their philanthropy through the Wolverine Foundation. Recent giving has been modest, focusing on education and health. Breed is on the board of Greenwich Hospital, where he chairs the investment committee. According to available tax filingss, the foundation awarded around $600,000 in grants in 2017.

BACKGROUND: Alan W. Breed has a B.A. in economics from Emory University and an MBA from Northwestern University. He worked at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., where he completed its equity research training program and joined the equity department. He was a vice president in the institutional equity department of First Boston Corporation. In 1994, Breed joined Edgewood Management in 1994 as a partner and is currently president. 

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couple supports the University of Richmond, where Breed serves on the board and chairs the investment committee. Other grantees include Columbia University, Denison University (Ellen's alma mater), Roosevelt High School, and Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.

HEALTH: Breed is on the board of Greenwich Hospital, where he chairs the investment committee. The Breeds support the hospital as well as Prostate Cancer Foundation.

GREENWICH COMMUNITY: Grantees include Christ Church Greenwich and Family Centers, a "private, nonprofit organization offering education, health and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County."

LOOKING FORWARD: Breed's brother Michael, a professional golf instructor and television host, is on the books of Wolverine, and the family's giving has supported J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship. Breed is still much engaged in business but perhaps more money will move out in coming years.
