BACKGROUND: Ralph L. Schlosstein graduated with a bachelor’s in economics from Denison University in 1972, and completed his coursework for a Masters of Public Policy from University of Pittsburgh. From 1977 to 1981, Schlosstein worked for the federal government. He was a managing director in investment banking at Lehman Brothers and in 1988 cofounded BlackRock, the largest publicly traded asset management firm, with over $6 trillion in assets under management. Schlosstein was the CEO of HighView Investment Group, and is currently president and CEO of Evercore, an independent investment banking firm.
ISSUES:
EDUCATION & YOUTH: Support has gone to Barnard College, Boston College, Columbia University (where daughter Katherine graduated), Denison University (Schlosstein is a former trustee), Harvard Kennedy School, New Visions for Public Education, Prep for Prep, Nightingale Bamford School, Teach for America, The Episcopal School, and Trinity School, where Schlosstein was formerly on the board.
POLICY & GLOBAL: Jane Hartley worked in the Carter Administration and has been United States Ambassador to France and United States Ambassador to Monaco. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, which the couple supports. Other grantees have included the Brookings Institution, Amnesty International, and Human Rights First. Schlosstein is also on the advisory council of The Hamilton Project, which “offers a strategic vision and produces innovative policy proposals on how to create a growing economy that benefits more Americans.”
ARTS & CULTURE: Grantees have included Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (Schlosstein is on the board), and American Museum of National History, where Schlosstein was formerly on the board.
OTHER: Support has gone to health organizations including Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and to Jewish outfits including UJA Federation.
