Daniel and Gisela Ades

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Kawa Capital Management

FUNDING AREAS: Jewish Causes, South Florida Community, TBD

OVERVIEW: Daniel and Gisela Ades conduct their philanthropy through the Gisela and Daniel Ades Philanthropic Fund. The couple have made donations to select Jewish organizations in the South Florida area where they live.

BACKGROUND: Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Daniel Ades received a B.A. in economics and international relations from Tufts University in 2001 and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School in 2003. Ades was a partner at the investment advisory firm Horn Eichenwald Investments. He founded Kawa Capital Management in 2007.

ISSUES:

JEWISH CAUSES: Ades and Gisela have supported Birthright Israel Foundation, The Jewish Agency, and ParnossahWorks Miami, a partnership between Jewish Community Services of South Florida and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation that aims to "help job-seekers gain immediate access to available job opportunities—and to provide employers with a way to locate qualified applicants and talent for their staffing needs." The couple have also been involved with Scheck Hillel Community School.

LOOKING FORWARD: The young Ades couple should be watched for much greater giving down the line. The family has ties to Brazil, which could emerge as an important region of giving outside of their Florida residence. Gisela is an attorney at an immigration law practice and specializes in employment-based visa and green card petitions, so philanthropy that considers immigration and worker's rights may be an avenue worth exploring.
