PROFILE: Created in 2009, The Awesome Foundation is a collection of global, autonomous chapters seeking to advance “the interest of awesome in the universe, $1000 at a time.” Each chapter provides its own definition of “awesome”: “Many awesome projects are novel or experimental, and evoke surprise and delight. Awesome sometimes challenges and often inspires.” The foundation provides dance support through its microgrants.
It provides grants to individuals, groups, and organizations. Funded areas include the arts, technology, community development, and more. New grant seekers should first try to apply to a local chapter. If this is impractical, grant seekers should apply to one of the thematic chapters or select “any” on the application form.
New grant seekers can apply to more than one chapter; however, they are encouraged to indicate this one their application. Chapters typically respond within the month. Grant seekers can apply through the online application portal.
