OVERVIEW: The VoLo Foundation makes grants to support groups focused on climate change and the environment.

IP TAKE: This funder supports projects and programs that offer measurable and sustainable results; however, it does not accept unsolicited proposals or requests for funding. It tends to award its science research grants to independent investigators at larger academic institutions. PROFILE:The VoLo Foundation was established by David Vogel and Thais Lopez Vogel in 2014 as a vehicle for their personal philanthropy. It seeks to “accelerate change and global impact by supporting science-based climate solutions, enhancing education, and improving health.” It does not have clear grantmaking programs and instead funds specific Projects tailored to the needs of their grantees. 

Grants for Climate Change, Conservation and Sustainable Agriculture 

The foundation offers limited information regarding specific areas of grantmaking focus in the climate change space. According to tax filings, it appears to give broadly to a number of climate change organizations and research projects.

Climate change giving tends to address carbon pricing, bolstering voting movements that protect climate change efforts, climate change education, more sustainable agricultural practices, clean energy, sustainable transportation, and refrigeration.

The foundation does not offer information regarding specific areas of grantmaking focus in the science research field. According to tax filings, it awards grants to support a broad range of research initiatives.

Past grantees include Walter Willett of Harvard University, who received a grant for his research work regarding the role of nutrition in cognitive decline; and Jose Guevara-Patino of Loyola University, Chicago, who received a grant for his research using the immune system to fight cancer.
