PROFILE: Nelson Gerew serves as the Chicago Public Education Fund’s director of program investment. Gerew’s CPEF bio shares:

As Director of Program Investments at The Fund, Nelson supports the work of the program team. In this position, he manages and utilizes The Fund’s data resources and provides analytic support for all aspects of The Fund’s investments.

Prior to joining The Fund, Nelson worked as a research assistant and research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where he worked closely with staff economists on research and policy work related to issues in labor economics, macroeconomics and regional economic conditions.

Nelson received his bachelor’s degree in economics, magna cum laude, from Yale University. He is married to Cara Bucciarelli, a Spanish teacher at LaSalle II Elementary Magnet School. They reside in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood.

He has spoken at industry conferences about improving principal quality in large urban districts. He has been published in numerous economics articles related to conditions in New England.
