Rodger and Hillary Krouse

SOURCE OF WEALTH: Sun Capital Partners

FUNDING AREAS: Education & Youth, South Florida Community

OVERVIEW: Rodger and Hillary Krouse move philanthropy through the Krouse Family Foundation, through which they engage in modest personal philanthropy. Available tax filings indicate that the foundation dispersed around $880,000 in grants in 2018. The family foundation also strongly supports the Sun Capital Partners Foundation, which focuses on local nonprofits and educational institutions, while also responding to urgent relief efforts stemming from events such as Hurricane Sandy and the Haiti earthquake. Krouse and his business partner Marc Leder jointly support Sun Capital Partners Foundation.

BACKGROUND: Rodger R. Krouse graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in economics. He is the co-founder and co-CEO of Sun Capital Advisors, Inc., and has been engaged in leveraged buyouts, investment banking, and business operations for more than three decades.

ISSUES:

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Via his family foundation, Krouse has supported his alma mater UPenn. Support has gone to City Year, Saint Andrews School in Boca Raton, and Columbia University. Sun Capital Partners Foundation has supported Success Academy Charter Schools, University of Arizona Foundation and John McDonogh High School in Louisiana.

SOUTH FLORIDA COMMUNITY: Sun Capital Partners Foundation has donated to more than 250 charities since its founding in 2007. Many of these are in the local South Florida community, including University Preparatory Academy-Pinellas, Junior Achievement South Florida, YMCA Palm Beach, Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund, and Women In Distress, “the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full-service domestic violence center serving Broward County, Florida.”

OTHER: Sun Capital Partners Foundation's grantmaking has touched Massachusetts General Hospital, National Hemophilia Foundation, National Museum of American Jewish History, Robin Hood Foundation, and UJA Federation of New York.

LOOKING FORWARD: Only in his 50s, Krouse is still very much engaged in business. Perhaps the family’s philanthropy will ramp up in the coming years.
