LJCF’s mission is “to support the development, launch and completion of improvement projects and services that enhance the environmental, cultural and commercial community of La Jolla.” This organization is not a grantmaking per se but works collaboratively with other community organizations on specific projects for development and improvement of La Jolla. Its current programs are Streetscape and Enhance La Jolla.
Grants for Community Development
The La Jolla Community Foundation is currently pursuing two community development projects.
Streetscape is “a collaborative initiative dedicated to the revitalization and enrichment of the Village of La Jolla.” The project is committed “to fostering community, respecting the environment, and ensuring safety and accessibility” and “will transform key areas into vibrant spaces that reflect the unique spirit of La Jolla for the benefit of residents, visitors, and local businesses.” Currently in its first phase, the project is pursuing improvements in the areas of landscaping, outdoor seating, lighting and upgrades to drainage grates, trash receptacles and public art spaces.
Enhance La Jolla (ELJ) manages the Maintenance Assessment District for the village of La Jolla and “is dedicated to the maintenance and physical improvement of the Village of La Jolla.” The program’s “primary goal is to ensure that the Village remains the jewel of San Diego, creating inviting public spaces that bring people together and improve the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors.” It oversees trash collection, pollution management, graffiti and “[p]ower washing of sidewalks.”
