PROFILE: Good Pitch is a collaborative project of the UK nonprofit Doc Society, the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and the Ford Foundation. It is not a grantmaker per se, but a group that brings filmmakers, NGOs, changemakers and others together to address pressing social and environmental issues in a way that is “mutually beneficial for all partners involved.”

Grants for Film

This organization produces and runs invitation-only filmmaking events around the world. Participating filmmakers attend intensive campaign development workshops and pitch their ideas for a documentary to support the given cause or campaign. Selected filmmakers receive support in the form of mentoring from Good Pitch and often generate interest and funding from other sources as a result of the exposure Good Pitch provides.

Grants for Journalism

Good Pitch does not run a separate program for journalism projects, but video journalists have participated in Good Pitch events and been selected to produce Good Pitch film projects.

Important Grant Details:

Recent events have been held at several locations in the U.S., as well as in India, Brazil, Denmark, Australia and Kenya. Past documentaries produced through the program include An African Spring, which deals with the pro-democracy movement in Senegal and Citizen Koch, about the influence of money in US politics. For information about past and future events, see Good Pitch’s events page.

Filmmakers and journalists who are interested in participating in Good Pitch events should sign up for the organization’s newsletter, which provides information about upcoming opportunities.
