PROFILE: Established in 2005, the NB3 Foundation, formerly the Notah Begay III Foundation, is a Native-led grantmaking organization based in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. Begay of the Diné people and Pueblos of San Felipe and Isleta is a four-time PGA Tour winner and currently a sports analyst on the Golf Channel and NBC Sports. The foundation aims to "ensure Native children achieve their full potential by advancing cultures of Native American community health.” It funds local efforts for physical activity, healthy nutrition, youth development and cultural connections.

The NB3 began its work with a junior golf program led by Notah Begay III’s father to introduce urban and rural Native American youth to the sport of golf. The foundation later expanded its scope to address Native children’s health needs through physical activity and sports. The funder takes a holistic approach to the issues of type-2 diabetes and obesity among Native American children. The foundation also started a first-of-its-kind soccer program at the Pueblo of San Felipe. NB3FIT is the foundation’s direct youth leadership and development program that focuses on junior golf, cross-country running and soccer. Overall, the foundation engages in direct youth programming, national grantmaking and evaluation and research efforts.
