PROFILE: The High Point Community Foundation (HPCF) is located in High Point, North Carolina, and serves the city of High Point and its environs. It seeks to be “a catalyst for positive change that promotes philanthropy, administers an expanding grants program and serves as a trustworthy partner in responding to community needs.” The foundation was established in 1990 and opened its first office with hired staff in 1998. An attorney and community leader named Jim Morgan came up with the idea for this foundation and worked with Jim Millis, Sr. to bring the idea to fruition.

HPCF currently makes grants through three separate initiatives: Hearts of High Point, Students First and the Women’s Fund. Hearts of High Point makes grants to support organizations and initiatives that provide “food, shelter, and rehabilitation or health services to the most needy individuals and families in the community.” To be eligible for grants stemming from this program, organizations must earmark at least half of their budgets to the provision of basic needs to areas residents. The Students First program supports area K-12 education with rapid response grants that improve and enrich student experiences throughout the school year. And the Women’s Fund is “dedicated to improving the lives of women,” with recent grants focused on mental health, safety and support for the area’s most vulnerable women and children. Additionally, the foundation makes grants through an Annual Grants Program, which supports organizations serving the communities of High Point with project and general operations support.
