Pretty Powerful Fund

OVERVIEW: The Pretty Powerful Fund supports organizations that fight for gender equity through women’s education.

IP TAKE: This corporate giving program tends to partner with only a handful of nonprofits at one time. It doesn’t run an application program and is difficult to contact. The foundation of its parent company, Estée Lauder, also maintains a low profile. A grantseeker’s best bet here might be to visit the company’s page on LinkedIn to make a connection.

PROFILE: The Pretty Powerful Fund, launched in 2019, is the philanthropic arm of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, a subsidiary of the Estée Lauder Companies group. Pretty Powerful is not registered as a tax-exempt organization, so it difficult to know specifics about its grantmaking and engagements. However, the Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Company and its Pretty Powerful Fund aim to “empower women and girls beyond makeup.”

Grants for Women and Girls

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and the Pretty Powerful Fund focus their philanthropy on “gender equality through education.” An early project, the Pretty Powerful Campaign, donated sales of Bobbi Brown’s Pretty Powerful Pot Rouge to Dress for Success London in 2013. More recently, the fund has supported She’s the First, which, in turn, supports hundreds of community organizations around the world in their efforts “to make sure girls everywhere are educated, respected, and heard.”

Other grant recipients include Girls for Gender Equity, the Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights, the Third Wave Fund and California’s Stuart House, which provides counseling and services to child victims of sexual abuse.

Important Grant Details:

According to its website, the Pretty Powerful Fund has donated over $1.5 million to women’s organizations since its founding in 2019. Individual grant amounts are not available at this time.
