ScreenCraft Film Production Fund

OVERVIEW: ScreenCraft runs writing competitions for various sub-genres of screenwriting and a production grant program.

IP TAKE: ScreenCraft is a for-profit company that runs competitions for screenwriting and a film production grant program. It charges somewhat hefty fees for entry into these programs, and while it does award some cash prizes and grants, “winners” are also “accepted” into the company’s workshops and seminars. According to its website, many successful film professionals have gotten their start here, and prizes involve “guaranteed” meetings with industry professionals. Detailed application guidelines are provided on each program page, and due dates vary by program.

PROFILE: The L.A.-based media company ScreenCraft was established in 2012 “to offer screenwriters something sorely needed in the writing community: support.” The company serves screenwriters with talent discovery programs, consulting services, industry events and educational resources including online courses and e-books. It also runs writing competitions for various sub-genres of screenwriting and a grant program, the ScreenCraft Film Fund, which supports film production. Entry fees for these programs range from about $40 to $150.
