PROFILE: Established in the early 1970s, the Generosity Trust is a Christian community foundation based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was originally known as the Dora Maclellan Brown Charitable Trust and now also as the Chattanooga Christian Community Foundation. Dora Maclellan Brown (1978-1974) was a local Chattanooga resident who was active in her church and wished to support Christian causes. Today, the Generosity Trust is dedicated to “empowering Christian giving.” It funds local Christian efforts to support region, churches, and education.

The Generosity Trust focuses its effort in three different ways. One way is to train local churches how to multiply their giving through partnerships with pastors and churches. The funder also provides tuition scholarships for seminary students. Since 1993, the Generosity Trust has offered mission funds, which are donor-advised funds. This is a way to help donors give to causes they care about with fewer hassles and less paperwork. The foundation also has dozens of community impact funds that donors can give to in support of local organizations.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $10,000. In a recent year, the foundation awarded over $21 million in grants and other assistance.
