PROFILE: Arkansas International is a nonprofit publication based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This is a journal of literature from the University of Arkansas Program in Creative Writing and Translation that is published biannually and awards prizes for unpublished fiction, essays, poetry, comics, and translation works. The organization aims to "publish the best literature from the United States and abroad.” It funds local efforts for creative writing and literature.
The Arkansas International is part of the Department of English and the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas and has a dedicated publication staff. Issues of the publication are available on the organization’s website and divided into sections for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, comics, and feature works. To win the Emerging Writer’s Prize, applicants must submit a single prose work not exceeding 7,500 words and pay a $20 entry fee. This is an opportunity for writers who have not published a full-length book; however, self-published books with under 500 copies are allowed. A different judge is selected each year to choose the winner and finalists. Aside from the prize, Arkansas International also accepts submissions for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, translation, and graphic literature.
