PROFILE: Established in 1937, the Boettcher Foundation is a family foundation based in Denver, Colorado. This is the foundation of Charles Boettcher, who had various successful business pursuits in Colorado in the late 1800s. His son, Claude K. Boettcher, wished to give back to Colorado from the family’s fortune, and the women of the Boettcher family were guiding forces in the foundation’s early development. The foundation seeks to “champion excellence across our state by investing in our most talented citizens and high-potential organizations.” Boettcher funds local education and biomedical research efforts.

The Boettcher Foundation largely funds scholarships for Colorado high school graduating seniors to allow them to pursue their education at a Colorado college or university. The foundation also has a teacher residency program to improve Colorado’s teachers. Boettcher funds biomedical research through its Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Awards to support scientific innovation in the state. In the past, the foundation has also funded community enrichment projects that promote youth development, arts and culture, and community use. In 2019, the foundation conducted a strategic review of its grantmaking to learn about the important issues in its areas of interest in Colorado. Boettcher also created the COVID Innovation Fund to support COVID-19 biomedical research.

Grants range between about $25,000 and $100,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on the state of Colorado.
