PROFILE: Established in 2012, the Gawlicki Family Foundation was established by husband and wife and business partners Ted and Mary Gawlicki. Ted Gawlicki graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colby College and earned his MBA in finance at the University of Connecticut. He held executive positions at two New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) manufacturing companies. In 1990, he cofounded Corporate Translations, Inc., a Connecticut-based life sciences translation and linguistic validation provider. The company was acquired for $70 million in cash.
Mary Gawlicki graduated with a bachelor’s degree in French from Manhattanville College and later earned her MBA in finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. She worked in manufacturing finance at Xerox, Scott Paper Company, and Digital Equipment Corp. In 1990, she cofounded Corporate Translations, Inc. with her husband Ted.

Grants for Health, Economic Development and Education
The foundation offers grants to Connecticut and New England-based nonprofits committed to transformative change in three focus areas: education, pulmonary health, and municipal and economic development. The foundation’s Education focus area aims to strengthen “academic achievement and equality through STEAM with a focus on underserved populations.” The foundation’s health area focuses on “empowering patients and enhancing health outcomes through intervention, rehabilitation, and patient-centered care.” The foundation also funds programs that support social and economic opportunity in Connecticut communities.
Important Grant Details:
Grants are typically a maximum of $250,000, though projects spanning several years may be larger. Grants have ranged from $5,000 to $1 million. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $1.4 million. Past grantees have included Teach for America, Kent State University, Hospital for Special Care, Saint Francis Hospital, and Real Art Ways, which is “committed to artists and to community.”
The foundation has a May 31st priority deadline. It also accepts grants submitted from June 1st to September 30th. It prioritizes projects that allow grantees to take a giant step forward in achieving their mission, and does not accept requests from organizations outside of the Northeast.
