SOURCE OF WEALTH: Marmon Holdings, Hyatt

FUNDING AREAS: Buddhism & Mental Health

OVERVIEW: Linda Pritzker launched the Namchak Foundation, which offers online learning and retreats in various locations, to give people tools for reducing suffering, and increasing happiness.

BACKGROUND: Born in 1953, Linda Pritzker studied at Antioch University and eventually earned a master’s in counseling psychology. She moved to Colorado, started her psychotherapy practice, and began a path of spiritual inquiry in Tibetan Buddhism. She is a daughter of Robert Pritzker, who along with his brother Jay Pritzker, built up manufacturing business Marmon Holdings and sold it to Berkshire Hathaway. The family also built the Hyatt hotel empire, though Pritzker has not involved herself with these enterprises.

ISSUES:

MENTAL & SPIRITUAL HEALTH:  Namchak Foundation “offers online learning and retreats in various locations, to give people tools for reducing suffering, increasing happiness, and generally waking up.” The foundation is dedicated to sharing the Namchak teachings of Tibetan Buddhist practice through meditation practice, community, and retreat in Montana. Students learn from living Tibetan masters as well as Western teachers, and receive support from a vibrant community.

LOOKING FORWARD: Expect Simons to continue to dig into this unique interest area.
