BACKGROUND: Karla Jurvetson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford University, and an M.D. from University of California. She works as a physician and is the former wife of venture capitalist Stephen Jurvetson, an early-stage investor in companies including SpaceX and Tesla.

EDUCATION & YOUTH: Jurvetson served on the board of trustees at Nueva School, where she was one of the founders of Nueva Upper School and co-chaired the school's $50 million capital campaign.  

ENVIRONMENT & GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT: Jurvetson is a supporter of the Jane Goodall Institute, Conservation International, and One Acre Fund. She’s also supported places like Rainforest Action Network.

LOOKING FORWARD: Jurvetson is also active in politics and civic life, serving on the board of EMILY’s List.  She is active in efforts to increase voter turnout, end voter suppression, and increase the representative diversity of our society’s leadership  to affect positive structural change.  All of these interests could come into play as Jurvetson ramps up her giving in the coming years.
