BACKGROUND: Micky Arison attended University of Miami. Arison is chairman of the world's largest cruise ship operator, Carnival Corp., cofounded by his late father Ted. In the mid 1990s, he took control of the NBA’s Miami Heat, which has won three NBA championships.

ARTS & CULTURE: The Arison family supports the New World Symphony, where Madeleine sits on the board. His father Ted created the institution decades ago. The Arisons also support National YoungArts Foundation, whose board Ted’s granddaughter Sarah chairs. Other grantees have included Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, and Miami Children’s Museum, where the couple are honorary trustees.
HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES: Grantees have included Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Cancer Society, Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, American Heart Association, Baptist Health South Florida Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
EDUCATION & YOUTH: The couple have supported University of Miami. Other grantees have included Big Brothers & Big Sisters Greater Miami, Overtown Youth Center, Teach for America, Learning Experience School, and Mourning Family Foundation, which focuses on youth development through advocacy, education and enrichment. Alonzo Mourning is one of the Miami Heat’s most legendary players and had his jersey retired by the organization last decade.
MIAMI COMMUNITY: The Arisons have contributed millions to disaster relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes including a $1 million pledge for Hurricane Dorian relief.
LOOKING FORWARD: In his 70s, Arison is still very much engaged in business but expect his steady support of select South Florida organizations in particular to continue. Down the line, his two children should be watched as well.
