Glazer Family Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Glazer Family Foundation supports children’s health and education programs in the Tampa Bay area.

IP TAKE: The foundation does not detail a formal application process; it gives primarily in Tampa Bay and Central Florida.

PROFILE: Established in 1999, the Glazer Family Foundation was launched by the late Malcolm Glazer, who was the owner and president of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manchester United Football Club, and CEO and president of First Allied Corporation. It is now steered by next generation family members, including son Ed Glazer, owner and co-chairman of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The foundation does not maintain a full website, but a Buccaneers’ philanthropy page details some of the foundation’s priorities. The Glazer Family Foundation supports children’s health and education programs in the Tampa Bay area.

Grants for Public Health and Youth

The Glazer Family Foundation Vision Program has provided more than 100,000 eye screenings, performed over 16,500 eye exams and outfitted more than 15,000 children with free eyeglasses since the start of the program in 1999. An RV also travels to Title-1 schools throughout Hillsborough County providing eye screenings for children. The couple founded the “B.F.F. Bear Program” – which gives away thousands of free teddy bears annually to pediatric patients at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. They are also involved with places like the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Grants for Education

The foundation does not appear to have a distinct strategy for giving relate to education. It does, however, makes grants to organizations with which the couple are affiliated personally, so it will be hard to get a grant here otherwise. Glazer has supported his alma mater Ithaca College, home to the Edward and Shari Glazer Arena. Shari recently joined the board of all-girls’ Marlborough School in Los Angeles, the site of the Shari and Ed Glazer Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI). Via the Glazer Family Foundation, the family have also supported Pinellas Education Foundation, “a coalition of business and community leaders who collaborate with community partners to nurture student success in the classroom and to better prepare them for the world beyond.”

Grants for Arts and Culture

The family, via their foundation, launched the the Glazer Children’s Museum in downtown Tampa, Florida. The Glazer couple recently launched the Edward and Shari Glazer Charitable Trust inspired by their love and support of the arts. The foundation is still in its early stages. Shari is active in the arts world and is on the board of MOCA and is a member of the LACMA collectors committee and committee for Tate Americas.

Glazer also has a passion for corvettes. The couple created the Ed and Shari Glazer Family Corvette Delivery Program with the National Corvette Museum.
