Vera Vietor created this foundation with a $2.4 million donation in her hometown of Bayside. The foundation aims to "promote and encourage generosity, leadership and inclusion to strengthen our communities.” It funds local efforts for community building, youth services, health and wellness, art and culture, education, Native cultures and nonprofit capacity.

The Humboldt Area Foundation supports a wide variety of local efforts in its geographic region of focus. It supports the Humboldt Health Foundation to fund health and dental care needs and partners with other local funders in the North Coast Grantmaking Partnership for collaborative efforts. The Wild Rivers Community Foundation is a HAF affiliate that serves over 200,000 local residents, and the Trinity Trust is an affiliate that works in Trinity County. One HAF program is the Native Cultures Fund that supports art, sacred sites and language development. HAF is also involved with the Cascadia Center for Leadership, Equity Alliance of the North Coast, Building Healthy Communities and the Northern California Association of Nonprofits. HAF also responds to urgent and emergency needs when they arise through rapid response funds.
