PROFILE: Established in 2001, the Angell Foundation is a private foundation based in Los Angeles, California. This is the foundation of David and Lynn Angell and carries on their legacy of giving. David Angell was a screenwriter and television producer who won multiple awards. He is from Rhode Island and moved to Los Angeles in 1977. David and Lynn Angell died in a plane crash on the first plane to hit the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks in New York City. The foundation “invests in transformative opportunities, cultivates compassionate leaders, and partners with organizations committed to creating a more equitable world.” It funds local efforts for education, food equity and leadership.

The Angell Foundation supports educational pathways that lead to promising careers, especially for students ages 14 to 26 from underserved populations. Education interests of the foundation are low-income students, students of color, young men of color, foster youth and first-generation college students. Food-related grantees address food insecurity and access to healthy foods in local neighborhoods. This effort is centered on the hunger and nutrition needs of seniors, families with young children, foster youth and veterans. Leadership grants support programs that inspire compassionate leaders who are committed to social change. These grants go towards leadership trainings, skill workshops and retreats for both organizations and individuals.
