Goizueta Foundation

PROFILE: The Goizueta Foundation is the legacy foundation of Roberto C. Goizueta, who was the chairman and CEO of the Coca-Cola Company from 1981 to 1997. He established this foundation in 1992 to support education and human services. The Goizueta Foundation is led by Roberto C. Goizueta’s immediate family. Roberto passed away in 1997, and his wife, Olga Goizueta Rawls, passed away in November 2015. The foundation states that “challenging organizations to think about education in innovative, strategic ways is part of the secret formula to creating life-changing opportunities for individuals and long-term benefits for the communities in which they live and serve.”
This is a funder that supports the power of partnership and sees itself as a partner to grantees who share its values for positive community change. The foundation’s early learning program supports center-based child development programs that provide full-day, year-around care in Metro Atlanta. It funds programs that serve low-income families and that increase access to high-quality programs and advance the organizational capacities of child care centers.
Goizueta’s K-12 education program supports STEM programs and after-school/summer academic programs. It prioritizes K-12 students in Metropolitan Atlanta, and this funder seeks to work with independent schools and large-scale organizations that work within public school systems.
Goizueta’s “A Stronger Atlanta” program supports community organizations that enhance the city’s vitality through creativity and innovation. Program staff identify and directly engage with organizations in this focus area, and uninvited inquiries are not considered.
Grant seekers can learn about recent grantees on the foundation’s Grants by Year page. As of 2019, the foundation has provided support for more than 297 organizations through 630 grants, totaling more than $595 million. This means that many Goizueta are returning and continuous grantees. In 2019, the foundation made a $30 million grant to Emory University’s Goizueta Business School, bringing the foundation’s total support for the institution to nearly $100 million.
The foundation accepts grant applications on a rolling basis, and the application process is all online. Staff review the proposals at board meetings in May and November. Organizations are considered for grants in the following 10 Atlanta metro counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale. Types of funding include institutional strengthening, organizational and program development and expansion, and organizational and project planning.
