PROFILE: Established in 2005, the Arison Arts Foundation is steered by art collector Lin Arison, the widow of Ted Arison, founder of Carnival Cruise Lines. Film producer Sarah Arison chairs the board of the Arison Arts Foundation and is active in the local arts community. In the early 1980s, Lin and Ted created the National YoungArts Foundation in Miami, which “identifies the most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary and performing arts, and provides them with creative and professional development opportunities throughout their careers.” She gave $39 million to the institution in 2010 alone.

Grants range from $5,000 to around $8.6 million. In a recent year, the foundation gave away approximately $21.2 million. Past grantees include Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Serpentine Galleries, and Studio Museum in Harlem.

The foundation keeps a low profile and does not detail its grantmaking process.
