OVERVIEW: ArtsKC supports arts projects and organizations within a five county region that includes Clay, Platte, and Jackson in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas.

It seeks to “unleash the power of the arts” and “build a city of great dreams and vigorous life, where everyone participates in and benefits from the arts.” ArtsKC supports the visual arts, dance, music, theater, poetry, and interdisciplinary art through a series of grants.

Grants for Arts and Culture

Mission Support Grants (formerly Ovation grants) are for organizations whose primary purpose is the arts. It supports “people, programs and projects that make the arts more accessible, that sustain a vibrant and thriving arts community, and that support traditions of excellence as well as innovation and entrepreneurship in the arts.”

Project Support Grants (formerly Catalyst Grants) are for arts, cultural, or other nonprofit organizations conducting a specific arts project. Examples of projects funded by this program include No Divide KC’s 1st Annual Queer Narratives Festival, which featured “13 artists from various disciplines and backgrounds who represent an array of LGBTQ+ identities” and The International Radio Project of Kansas City’s Crown Crafted Music Series. Inspiration Grants are project grants for individual artists or small groups of artists. Ambitious projects of risk, growth, and change for the artist while making a positive impact on the community are the highest priority for these grants. Previous Inspiration grantees can be found here.

Teri Rogers Filmmaker Grants honor the memory of Rogers, who “dedicated her life to uplifting women creatives in Kansas City.” Grants support “ambitious projects of risk, growth and change for the filmmaker that also make a positive community impact.” The $10,000 award is accompanied by a five-year membership to Film Independent and “mentorship opportunities with professionals in the field.”

Creative Initiative Impact Funding supports “organizations or initiatives who support Jackson County or Kansas City, MO neighborhood and community development with arts and culture projects, activities, or programs.” The program prioritizes projects that promote accessibility. Grants are awarded in the amounts of $2,500 or $5,000.
