PROFILE: Based in Germantown, Maryland, the Childhood Brian Tumor Foundation is a volunteer-led organization founded by physicians, families, and friends of children who suffer from brain tumors. It was first incorporated in Virginia in 1994, but dissolved and reincorporated in Maryland in 1998. The foundation’s main goal is to raise awareness of childhood brain tumors, but its research grants focus on diagnosis, treatments and cures for a broad range of brain tumors and cancers that affect children.

Neuroscience Grants

CBTF does not name specific goals for its Research Grants, but a significant portion of recent funding has gone to studies of glioma and medulloblastoma tumors.

  • Special Projects range from $2,000, $3500, to $25,000, $50,000.

  • One-year grants range from $35, 000 to $50,000, once or twice $60,000.

  • Conference sponsorships ISPNO in past years, range $10,000 to $15,000

  • Family Retreat Day Events held by CBTF have been offered as a special service for families $5500-10,000 each, nearly every year, NO cost to families

  • Brittany Truitt Scholarships which are for $6,000,($1000-$1500 each).

  • Some support has been given to local families in the area where CBTF is located.

Important Grant Details:

CBTF makes about $150,000 in grants each year. Its grants are generally awarded in the amount of $30,000 per year for a maximum of two years. Grantmaking is generally limited to research conducted at U.S.-based universities, hospitals and institutes.

This funder generally opens is application portal from January until mid-March each year.
