PROFILE: Established in 2015, the Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston (JTFGB) is a youth philanthropy organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. It launched as an incubator program within the Jewish Teen Funders Network and has received funding from Laura Lauder and The Maimonides Fund. It is a community program based at Hebrew College and offers local teens in the Boston area the opportunity to put their Jewish values to work for philanthropy. JTFGB funds local efforts for mental health, homelessness, children and youth, education, substance use disorders, gun violence, environmental justice and other community issues.

The Jewish Teen Foundation of Greater Boston has foundation boards that bestows teens with the power to run them, while teaching them the necessary skills to make philanthropic decisions. The teens choose an issue area to focus on each year, learn about relevant nonprofits, request proposals, evaluate submissions, participate in fundraising, go on site visits and allocate money to selected nonprofits. Therefore, this foundation is as much about grooming the next generation of philanthropic leaders as it is awarding grants to Boston nonprofits in need of support.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $5,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by following the Jewish Boston newsletter. Grantmaking focuses on Boston, Massachusetts. Past local grantees include Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, Brothers for Life and Jewish Family & Children’s Service TeenSafe.

This foundation accepts unsolicited applications on a rolling basis. JFTGB has an online application system to use. Direct general questions to the JTFGB director, Leah Goldstein, at lgoldstein@hebrewcollege.edu or 617-559-8803.
