For over a century, the Associated Jewish Federation of Baltimore (AJFB) has been working in Maryland to support local Jewish life and values. AJFB pursues this mission in numerous ways, funding work related to social justice, caring for others and staying connected to Israel. Here’s a closer look at this organization’s philanthropy and what it’s most interested in right now.

Community and human services

Taking care of people in need is a core Jewish value, and it’s also a top priority for AJFB. The federation provides community support to fight poverty, hunger, homelessness, abuse and isolation, and to keep children safe. Accordingly, the organization provides educational social support for people with disabilities, older people, people in need of employment assistance, and survivors of trauma and abuse.

Jewish life in Baltimore

AJFB is also committed to helping Jewish children in Baltimore make connections to each other and to Jewish values. This translates to support for Jewish private and day schools, summer camps and spiritual Shabbat experiences. Early Jewish education and synagogue partnerships also get funding from AJFB.

Dedicated to social justice

To address social justice issues in Baltimore, AJFB engages in advocacy, education, volunteerism and neighborhood revitalization. It’s interested in real, actionable change and often supports multicultural programs that bring together people of different backgrounds and unite community leaders across difference.

Connecting to the world

AJFB recognizes that the local Jewish community can benefit from staying connected to Israel and the rest of the world. It looks to create Jewish communities beyond the state of Maryland through programs for economic development, a community leadership forum, and partnerships with other cities and global organizations.

In addition to providing resources for nonprofits and professionals working in Baltimore’s Jewish community, AJFB offers many ways to get involved through volunteering, travel, professional associations, women’s groups and youth leadership. However, it does not typically accept unsolicited grant applications.
