OVERVIEW: The Wood River Women’s Foundation supports Blaine County, Idaho in the areas of arts, education, environment, health, recreation and social services.

PROFILE: Established as a philanthropic gift fund in the Idaho Community Foundation, the Wood River Women’s Foundation (WRWF) is a women’s giving circle with over 300 members. The women’s giving group held its first event in July 2005 for approximately 30 women and doubled in size in less than six months. It has been awarding grants since 2006. The foundation “inspires and educates women to become leaders in philanthropy and bring significant, positive change to the community by pooling and distributing its members’ resources.” Grantmaking includes arts, education, environment, health, recreation and social services.

WRWF has one grantmaking cycle per year, with the pooled grant fund process beginning each fall. The foundation supports a wide range of nonprofits within its priority areas and chooses grantees by a vote of its full membership. WRWF regularly supports individual programs, community partnerships, outreach and expansion projects.

Foundation grants range from $5,000 to $25,000. In a recent year, the funder gave nearly $300,000 to a total of 16 nonprofits in Blaine County. Past grantees should wait three years before applying for a new grant.

WRWF accepts grant applications from local nonprofits. The foundation has a grants committee, an impact committee, an events committee and an education committee.
