PROFILE: Established in 2001, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD) is a community foundation based in Dubuque, Iowa. Community leaders began discussing the creation of CFGD in 1999, it went public in 2002, and it first opened its office doors in 2003. The foundation aims to create a "vibrant and inclusive Greater Dubuque region with resources and opportunities for all.” It funds local efforts for community benefit, technical assistance, women and children, youth, arts and culture, basic needs, and education.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque awards community impact grants from its unrestricted funds to address a wide variety of local needs. It awards technical assistance grants to strengthen nonprofits, as well as women’s giving circle grants to support the needs of women and children. Other grant opportunities exist for youth-serving agencies, Dubuque arts and cultural organizations, and basic needs, such as food, shelter, safety, health, and education. CFGD has a 24-hour online giving event called Great Give Day that takes place in May. It also has eight affiliate foundations and two partner foundations that focus on more specific regional and topical needs. Meanwhile, CFGD initiatives address grade-level reading, community engagement, energy sustainability, inclusive communities, vision improvement for kids, and other interests.

Past local grantees include the Dubuque Food Pantry, Dubuque Community YMCA, and Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.
