PROFILE: Established in 1988, the Siouxland Community Foundation (SCF) is a community funder based in Sioux City, Iowa. Community leaders came together to create the foundation and address local needs, and SCF became an active grantmaking organization in 1991. The foundation aims to "enhance the quality of life in the greater Siouxland tri-state area by seeking charitable gifts to build permanent endowments as charitable capital for the community, providing a flexible vehicle to receive and distribute gifts of any size, making grants in response to community needs, and providing services that will help shape the well-being of Siouxland.” It funds local efforts for arts and culture, civic affairs, education, environment, health, and human services.

Grants for Arts and Culture, Democracy and Civic Engagement, Education, Environment, Public Health and Access, and Community Development

The Siouxland Community Foundation often supports programs that assist the elderly, feed the hungry, and enhance neighborhoods. It looks to address community health issues, provide educational scholarships for local youth, and also provide safe places for children to play. Grants address both present and emerging needs. On its website, SCF provides application links for its Excellence in Education Fund (teacher mini-grant program), Fund for Siouxland, Junior League of Sioux City/Mildred Anderson Grant Program, Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School Foundation (grant programs for teachers), United Airlines Trust Fund, and the affiliates. There are at least 12 established affiliate foundations at SCF that concentrate specifically on local needs.

Past local grantees include the Orpheum Theatre, Sanborn Public Library, and Moorhead Cultural Center of the Loess Hills.
