PROFILE: Established in 1986, the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund (UMHMF) is a health legacy foundation based in Hutchinson, Kansas. The sale of the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita created the foundation with a $30 million grant. The foundation aims to establish "healthy Kansans through cooperative and strategic philanthropy guided by Christian principles.” UMHMF funds local efforts for access to care, early childhood development and healthy congregations.

The United Methodist Health Ministry Fund focuses much of its efforts on rural and underserved communities in the state. It offers funding programs, convening resources and hands-on expertise for local nonprofits working to improve the health of Kansans now and in the future. Access to grants ensure the delivery system is integrated and sustainable and also ensure there is sustainable financing for care. UMHMF’s early childhood grants support early mental health, food, family nurturing and preparation for school success. The foundation is linked to Kansas and Nebraska United Methodist congregations and interested in engaging congregations and interfaith partners in community work.

Grants range between about $10,000 and $200,000.  Annual grantmaking often nearly reaches $2 million. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records.
