PROFILE: Established in 1951, the Fremont Area Community Foundation (FACF) is a community foundation based in Fremont, Michigan. Fremont attorney William J. Branstrom, along with Frank Gerber, Horace Loomis, Dick Pikaart, Herman Schuiteman and Bessie Slautterback, created the foundation. The foundation aims to "improve the quality of life for all residents of Newaygo County” and does this “by connecting community needs with the passions of families, businesses and individuals.” It funds local efforts for community and economic development, education, poverty to prosperity, people with disabilities, health and youth.

The Fremont Area Community Foundation has multiple types of grants, including community grants that meet critical local needs for key issue areas. Community and economic development grants help reduce the local unemployment rate, education grants increase high school graduation rates and poverty-focused grants help reduce the local poverty rate. Amazing X grants support people with disabilities, Elderly Needs Fund grants support senior citizens, Ice Mountain grants support the Muskegon River Watershed and Youth Advisory Committee grants support the needs of local young people. There are also geographic affiliate foundations with their own grant rounds and deadlines from the Lake County, Mecosta County and Osceola County community foundations. In the past, FACF has supported the community through a small business recovery loan program and through scholarships to local students as well.

Grants range between about $2,000 and $75,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving on the grants awarded page of the FACF website. Grantmaking focuses on Newaygo County in Michigan.
