PROFILE: Established in 1999, the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit (JWFMD) is a local women’s foundation that is part of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. The Jewish Federation and United Jewish Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit created this foundation to support causes that impact on the lives of girls and women. The foundation aims to advance "social change by expanding opportunities for Jewish women, their families, and community.”

The Jewish Women’s Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit has demonstrated its interest in promoting healthy lifestyles, life skills and self-esteem training for women and girls. The foundation has also funded organizations that work in the fields of domestic abuse prevention, financial literacy, self-sufficiency, social opportunity and job training. A majority of grants go to federation agencies and other Jewish organizations.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $20,000. Grantmaking focuses on Detroit and other communities in Michigan. Past local grantees include the Fresh Air Society, MSU Hillel & Hillel Campus Alliance of Michigan, and the Jewish Community Center.
