PROFILE: Established in 1994, the Nebraska Community Foundation (NCF) is a community foundation based in Lincoln, Nebraska. A group of visionaries created the foundation to help the state grow and prosper with enhanced tools and resources. The foundation aims to “unleash abundant local assets, inspire charitable giving, and connect ambitious people to build stronger communities and a greater Nebraska.” It funds local efforts for capacity building, economic development, and various community needs.

The Nebraska Community Foundation is not a typical grantmaking community foundation. It has a network that reaches over 250 communities in the state but focuses much of its efforts on affiliated funds. Affiliates receive gift planning assistance and peer learning resources and training. NCF also helps affiliates with grant applications and guidelines, youth philanthropy contests, marketing and promotions, and leadership development. Some of the many funds held here include the Big Springs Community Fund, Callaway Community Fund, and Brown County Hospital Endowment Fund. Past grants have funded general operating support, park playgrounds, building additions, and specific projects.

Grants range between about $30,000 and $100,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on communities throughout the state of Nebraska. Past local grantees include Republican Valley Child Development Center, Columbus Library Foundation, and Norfolk Public Schools Foundation.

This foundation does not typically accept unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits. Direct general questions to the staff at 402-323-7330 or via online form.
