PROFILE: Established in 1982, the Omaha Community Foundation (OCF) is a community foundation based in Omaha, Nebraska. This foundation connects donors and nonprofits to create a stronger Omaha region and engage the community around important issues. The foundation serves over 1,700 donors and the needs of over 3,000 nonprofits. The foundation aims to “inspire philanthropy to create a thriving community for all.” It funds local efforts for neighborhoods, equity, education, natural sciences, health, capacity building, arts and culture, economic opportunity, transportation, and vibrant communities.

The Omaha Community Foundation pursues grantmaking from an equity and inclusion standpoint. It offers numerous opportunities to apply for local grants. For example, OCF accepts applications between January and March for Omaha Neighborhood Grants, African American Unity Fund, and Futuro Latino Fund. It accepts grants in June and July for the LGBTQIA+ Equality Fund, Jetton Charitable Fund, Creche Childhood Education Fund, and Richard A. Shaw Fund. In July and August, OCF accepts grants for the Fund for Omaha and the Building Healthy Futures Fund. Some of these funds are community interest funds, while others are field-of-interest funds. The Fund for Omaha has six interest areas. Meanwhile, nonprofits can participate in Omaha Gives! to connect with OCF’s capacity-building resources. There are also affiliate foundations at OCF to meet the needs of nine neighboring counties in Iowa.
