PROFILE: Established in 1988, the Nevada Community Foundation (NCF) is a community funder based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moe Dalitz’s large contribution helped launch the foundation, which was the first community foundation in the state and has since worked with hundreds of donors in Southern Nevada. NCF currently manages more than 150 charitable funds. The funder aims to “to match donors’ charitable objectives with the ongoing needs of the community.” NCF funds work that addresses education, human services, and women and girls.

Grants for K-12 Education, Women and Girls, and Community Development

The foundation has a program called Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada that helps students stay in school and succeed in life. It also offers a variety of nonprofit services, such as fiscal sponsorship, endowment funds, and technical assistance. A NCF community initiative is the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, which Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman established to help donors, foundations and businesses invest in programs to improve the quality of life in Las Vegas. Another is Southern Nevada Strong, which seeks “to align the priorities of local governments, agencies, the civic sector and the business community around a common path and master plan.” Built for Zero works to end homelessness through a “housing first” philosophy. Additionally, NCF engages in mission-related investing in the forms of socially responsible investing, program-related investing, and pay-for-success models. Otherwise, NCF administers Nevada Women’s Philanthropy, which is composed of a volunteer group of over 100 women who pool annual donations to support Southern Nevada organizations.

The foundation also partners with the Nevada COVID-19 Response, Relief and Recovery Task Force to support the state during the coronavirus pandemic.

Past local grantees include Agape Pregnancy Centers, Bishop Gorman High School, Create a Change Now, and Vegas PBS.
