PROFILE: Established in 1997, Interact for Health is a health legacy foundation based in Cincinnati, Ohio. It formed when ChoiceCare Foundation sold its health maintenance organization to Humana and the proceeds were invested to serve the Greater Cincinnati region through charitable efforts. The foundation aims to "improve health by promoting health equity in our region through community engagement, grants, research, education and policy.” It funds local efforts for reducing tobacco use, addressing the opioid epidemic and school-based health centers.

Interact for Health has a competitive grant program that addresses the promotion of health through requests for proposals and applications. The funder lists currently open opportunities on its website when they are available. Tobacco-related funding supports policies, systems and environmental changes to decrease tobacco use. Opioid-related grants are often part of partner collaborations to address a shared regional agenda, shared data and efforts to reverse the trend of opioid misuse and opioid-related deaths. In schools, the foundation is active in promoting health education for low-income children through partnerships with teachers and health-care providers.

Grants range between about $5,000 and $500,000 and focus on the 20-county region around Cincinnati, including Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland counties in Indiana; Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton and Pendleton counties in Kentucky; and Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland and Warren counties in Ohio. Past local grantees include HealthSource of Ohio, Health Policy Institute of Ohio, Produce Perks Midwest and Outdoor Adventure Clubs of Greater Cincinnati. For more information about past funding see the organizations recent financial reports.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits for some programs at certain times of the year. The application process is conducted online. Direct general questions to the staff at info@interactforhealth.org or 513-458-6600.
