Donald D. Hammill Foundation

OVERVIEW: The Donald D. Hammill Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people who have disabilities, the aged, and people who are financially disadvantaged, including the working poor and those who are indigent or chronically ill.

IP TAKE: Despite its invitation only application policy, this is a fairly transparent funder. It is clear about the types of organizations it will and will not support. Grant amounts are modest, but groups in the Greater Austin area working within the foundation’s interest areas would be well-served to try to get on this funder’s radar.

OVERVIEW: Established in 1987, the Donald D. Hammill Foundation was founded by businessman Donald Hammill. Hammill received a doctorate in educational psychology-special education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963. He taught in the Corpus Christi public school system and as a speech and language therapist in Deer Park, Texas public schools. In 1977, he established PRO-ED, an international publishing company, where he serves as its president. PRO-ED is one of the major international publishers in the areas of special and remedial education, rehabilitation, psychology, assessment, and speech and hearing disorders.

The Donald D. Hammill Foundation aims to “to improve the quality of life for people who have disabilities, the aged, and people who are financially disadvantaged, including the working poor and those who are indigent or chronically ill.”
